Pro-Tech 8 Gloves - Overview
The Pro-Tech 8 Structural Glove Advantage:
At TechTrade we understand that the greatest threat to hand safety on the fire ground is when a firefighter's gloves are removed during operations. We don’t consider dexterity, grip, comfort and fit to be performance luxuries for a structural glove but rather, vital features for your most efficient performance, for your protection and safety and for the safety of potential victims. We have designed and constructed our gloves precisely with these facts in mind.
The unique varied layer construction of our Pro-Tech 8 structural firefighting gloves have been proven in the field, since 2006, to provide unsurpassed dexterity, grip, comfort, and fit without sacrificing world class thermal protection and additional protective properties. Only the Pro-Tech 8 glove design increases protection in the areas where your hands are most vulnerable while simultaneously adjusting layers in other areas to allow greater flexibility and less hand fatigue through long operations and training. Whether on the nozzle or using hand tools, operating radios, rope rescue systems or during any fire ground operation the versatile Pro-Tech 8 gloves provide you with the safest most efficient “gloves-on” performance.
Knuckle Guard Overview
To quote a NIOSH LODD report from June 2007: "Thus, the need to drill/practice operating radios with gloves on so they don't have to be removed during fire operations is critical. In this incident, a team member of E9 indicated that when the IC changed the fire ground channel he was unable to set his radio on the proper channel. He indicated this is a common occurrence due to not hearing the command or not being able to properly select the channel with bulky gloves and poor visibility."
The following incident illustrates this important characteristic. A firefighter from Chicago Squad 2 modestly wrote us: “I was involved in a rescue New Year’s Eve under heavy fire conditions. Because the victim was blocking the rear door, after I forced the lock side, I then had to take it off the hinges. The dexterity your gloves afford certainly aided in this task.”
More than a year later we learned more about this incident when the same firefighter received a Firehouse Heroism and Community Service Award cited in Firehouse Magazine April, 2011: On Jan. 1, 2010 at 1:30 A.M., Squad 2 responded to a building fire. The fire was in a two-story frame with fire blowing out the front and rear windows. Firefighters Reischl and Mansfield went to the rear, where a bystander said a man was trapped. They crawled through the dense smoke and met extreme heat and zero visibility. They forced open the door, but there was an obstruction. It was the body of an unconscious adult male. They had to remove the door and were met with flashover conditions, but continued without hesitation. They were able to spin the body in the tight stairway with fire raging over their heads and carry the victim to ground level.
And as an elite FDNY Capt. with 23 years of experience comments about his Pro-Tech 8 gloves: "I can do rope work, connect air hoses, Hurst tool fittings, even rigging. Your glove is still my favorite glove and I continue to show around the State though I see them everywhere so they sell themselves. They are the best fire glove I have used in my 20 plus years in the fire service."
Manufactured in an ISO 9001:2008 compliant factory, the Pro-Tech 8 gloves are specifically designed and constructed for hand protection during structural firefighting activities. The component materials will withstand the effects of flame, heat, vapor, hazardous liquids, sharp objects and other hazards encountered during structural firefighting operations.
